Teignmouth Seafront

The red cliffs rise behind Teignmouth's seafront like a fortress, and on a decent day the whole stretch feels properly seaside - the sort of place where you actually understand why Victorians made this a destination. The beach itself is decent shingle, backed by that classic promenade with amusements, cafes, and the kind of tacky charm that works because it's genuine, not themed.

You get a proper pier too, which has character. There's a steam railway that runs along the coast from here, which alone makes it worth the trip if you've got kids who go mad for that sort of thing. The seafront walk is gentle enough - no steep climbs - and stretches far enough to burn a good hour without feeling forced.

Historically, Teignmouth was a working port and it still has that no-nonsense feel. It's not trying to be anything other than what it is: a Devon seaside town with sand, sea views, and decent ice cream. Free to wander, obviously. The real payoff is having a couple of hours here mid-morning before the crowds, then grabbing lunch and moving on.

Staying nearby? Lady's Mile Holiday Park sits just 3.5 miles away, or Dawlish Sands is 4.3 miles if you want something fractionally closer to Dawlish itself. Either puts you perfectly positioned for a morning seafront session. It's not flashy enough to spend all week here, but as part of a wider Devon coast tour - Dawlish is right next door - it absolutely slots in.
