Taylor's Planting

Walk into Taylor's Planting and you're immediately swallowed by proper woodland - the kind where Lancashire's weather hits differently under the canopy. It's a forest just outside Garstang that feels properly remote despite being minutes from a market town, with paths threading through mixed planting that's clearly been here long enough to feel established.

What you get is straightforward: woodland to walk through. There's no visitor centre, no café, no attractions beyond the trees themselves. Bring decent boots if it's been wet. The paths are workable but ungroomed, so it's not a push-pram sort of place. Walkers and families with older kids will find it rewarding - there's enough space to properly get lost in, which is the point. You'll spend an hour here easily, longer if you're the type to sit on a fallen log and just be quiet.

This works brilliantly as a halfway break if you're basing yourself at Claylands Caravan Park or Moss Wood just down the road. Neither park is much to write home about on paper, but they're within spitting distance of actual countryside, and Taylor's Planting delivers that in spades. It's free to access, no permits needed, just turn up and go. Best visited when it hasn't rained for a day or two - the place gets properly boggy otherwise. Not spectacular, but genuine.
