Sulside Hill

The walk up Sulside Hill rewards you with views across the Ribble Valley that justify the effort, even on a drizzly Lancashire afternoon. It's a proper fell rather than a mountain - manageable for most fitness levels, though the final push gets steep enough to make you work for it.

You'll find moorland underfoot, open grassland, and on clear days the view stretches all the way across to Pendle Hill. The summit itself is fairly bare - no café or shelter, so bring a windproof. Reckon on an hour up, forty minutes down if you're steady-paced. It's the kind of walk where families with older kids thrive, and serious hikers often combine it with other peaks in the area.

Clitheroe sits just down the road, making this an easy addition to a longer Ribble Valley ramble. If you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Hedgerow Luxury Glamping or Parkdean Resorts Todber Valley are closest at under two miles - you could do this as a morning walk and still have the afternoon free. Thornton Hall Country Park, three and a bit miles away, offers a gentler alternative if Sulside feels too much.

Timing matters here. Early morning gives you the clearest views and fewer people. Go on a proper foul day and you'll see nothing but cloud, so check the weather beforehand. Free to access, no facilities at the top - come prepared.
