Sugar Hill

Sugar Hill is a modest peak near Clitheroe that rewards walkers with proper views across the Ribble Valley. Nothing flashy about it - just straightforward moorland climbing with glimpses of the surrounding fells and farmland below. The walk itself takes about ninety minutes from the village, depending on your pace and which route you pick. It's the sort of place where you earn your views rather than stumble onto them.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a destination in itself - there's no summit cairn, no cafe, no facilities - but it fits neatly into a longer moorland ramble through the area. Families with younger kids might find it a bit of a slog for the payoff, though anyone comfortable on hills will be fine. The best time to visit is autumn or early spring when the weather's clearer and you're not battling bog.

If you're staying at one of the glamping sites nearby - Hedgerow Luxury Glamping and Malham Glamping Pods are both within a few miles - Sugar Hill works well as a morning or afternoon activity between exploring Clitheroe itself and the wider Pendle area. Thornton Hall Country Park is also close by if you want to combine it with something less strenuous. The walk is free, of course. Go in decent boots and bring waterproofs. The weather changes fast up there.
