Strawberry Wood

A proper woodland walk rather than a themed attraction, Strawberry Wood sits just outside Garstang and delivers exactly what you'd expect from a Lancashire forest. The paths wind through mixed woodland with the kind of damp, earthy quiet that makes you remember why you left the caravan park in the first place. There's nothing fancy here - no visitor centre, no marked trails with interpretive boards, just trees and the occasional burst of birdsong.

Walkers will find it worthwhile, especially if you're based at one of the nearby parks like Claylands or Orchard Glamping and fancy a proper leg-stretch without driving miles. The woodland floor changes with the seasons, so autumn gets particularly atmospheric with the leaf litter. Kids will manage it fine if they're the type who enjoy pottering about looking for bugs and fallen branches - it's not a high-energy playground sort of place, though.

The real value comes as part of a bigger day. You could easily combine this with a walk around Garstang itself, which sits on the River Wyre and has a decent market town feel, or venture toward the wider Forest of Bowland if you want something more ambitious. Allow a couple of hours if you're taking it slowly and actually looking about. Go during midweek if possible - weekends can feel a bit tramped.
