Stoop Hill

The walk up Stoop Hill rewards you with proper views across the Ribble Valley - the kind that make you forget how steep the final push is. It's a modest peak by any standard, but the moorland setting around Clitheroe gives it character, and on a clear day you'll see right across Lancashire's softer landscape.

You're looking at maybe forty minutes to an hour from the base, depending on fitness and how often you stop for breath. It's not a technical climb - just relentless uphill through bog and bracken - so families with older kids will manage it fine. Younger ones might find it tedious. The moorland terrain means it's best avoided after heavy rain; you'll end up plastered in mud.

There's no formal visitor centre or facilities at the top, so bring water and snacks. It's free to walk, naturally, and you can approach it from various directions around Clitheroe.
