St Richard's Church, Burton

The church sits quietly in Burton, a village most people drive straight past on the way to Petworth. St Richard's is small, genuinely old, and the kind of place where you can actually hear yourself think - which is increasingly rare. The interior has that particular smell of centuries: stone, dust, old wood. What you get here is medieval architecture without the crowds you'd deal with at the big-name attractions. The walk in from the car takes minutes.

This works best for people who actually care about church architecture and local history. If you're treating it as a photo stop, you'll be done in twenty minutes.
