St. Peter's Church : Willerby

The church sits quietly on Willerby's main road, all red brick and Victorian solidity, and you'd be forgiven for driving straight past. But step inside and you'll find yourself in a proper piece of 19th-century Yorkshire - all high ceilings, decent stained glass, and the sort of peaceful atmosphere that makes you actually want to sit down for five minutes.

St. Peter's isn't going to set your heart racing if you're not a church enthusiast, but it's a solid addition to a walking holiday in the North Yorkshire Wolds. The building itself is handsome enough, and the churchyard offers a quiet spot to catch your breath between village rambles. Walkers tackling the Wolds routes will find it a natural stopping point, and there's something rather satisfying about coming across a well-maintained Victorian church in the middle of nowhere.
