St Patrick's Church, Belfast

The red-brick Victorian church standing on Donegall Street is one of Belfast's most recognizable religious buildings, and it's worth a proper look if you're in the city centre. Built in the 1870s, St Patrick's Church serves the local Catholic community and its interior - all high ceilings, ornate plasterwork, and stained glass - gives you a real sense of how Belfast's working-class neighbourhoods developed during the industrial boom.

You don't need hours here. A visit inside takes twenty minutes, maybe thirty if you're interested in the architectural details. The church itself is free to enter during opening hours, though you'll want to check ahead as times can be limited. History types will appreciate its place in Belfast's Catholic heritage, but it's not a major museum experience - more a moment of peace in the city's bustle.

It works well as a stop between other attractions rather than a destination in itself. If you're based at Dundonald Touring Caravan Park or The Pods at Streamvale, you're only four to five miles from the city centre, so dropping in during a day exploring Belfast makes sense. Combine it with a walk around the Cathedral Quarter or the nearby Linen Hall Library, and you'll get more from the trip.
