Ormeau Park

Ormeau Park spreads across both banks just south of Belfast city centre, offering something you won't find crammed between the shops - proper breathing room with woodland, grassland, and a network of paths that actually make you feel removed from the urban sprawl. You can walk for a good hour without repeating yourself, spot birds along the water (herons if you're lucky), and the whole thing feels less like a city park and more like the countryside decided to drop in for a visit.

It's genuinely worth the trip if you're staying at Dundonald Touring Caravan Park or The Pods at Streamvale - both are within ten minutes' drive. Families with primary-school-age kids will get a solid afternoon out of it; older teenagers might find it a touch dull unless they're into serious walking or wildlife spotting. The trails are well-maintained but not overcrowded, which is rare near Belfast. There's something refreshing about a nature reserve that hasn't been polished into submission for Instagram.

Don't expect facilities plastered everywhere - this is more about the natural side of things than cafes and playgrounds. Come in spring when the riverside birds are nesting, or autumn when the woodland actually feels like something.
