St. Michael's sits in Llandovery, a proper market town in the heart of Carmarthenshire that most people barrel through on the way somewhere else. The church itself is worth stopping for though - it's a solid medieval structure with that satisfying stone-built solidity you get from Welsh churches that have been standing for centuries.

You're looking at a traditional parish church with decent architectural bones. The interior has the usual arrangement - pews, altar, the works - but what matters is the sense of place. Llandovery as a whole is one of those towns that rewards a wander. The castle ruins are nearby, and the town has enough character that you won't feel shortchanged if the weather turns while you're exploring.

No entry fee as far as we can tell, and you can pop in whenever, though check local boards for service times if you want to respect that. Thirty minutes inside, plus another hour wandering the town itself, gives you a morning well spent.

If you're staying at Erwain Escapes or Riverside Pods - both within a couple of miles - this makes an easy morning before heading out to the wider Carmarthenshire attractions. It's not a destination in itself, but paired with the town's bones and the surrounding countryside, it slots nicely into a rural Welsh break. Don't expect grand architecture or crowds.
