St Mary's Church, Llannerchymedd

St Mary's Church sits in the middle of Llannerchymedd village, a solid stone structure that's been there longer than most of us care to think about. You'll find it without much fuss - it's the kind of place that announces itself quietly rather than shouting about it. The interior has that particular smell of old churches: stone, polish, and time. There's genuine medieval work here if you know where to look, though like many Welsh country churches it's been through the usual Victorian tidying-up that removes half the character and adds half the hymn boards.

Worth stopping for if you're already in the area, less worth a special trip from Amlwch. Church enthusiasts and local history types will find enough to keep them occupied for twenty minutes or so. Kids will get restless unless they're the kind who like poking around old gravestones, which, fair play, some do.

It's free to visit - just push the door and go. No set hours that I'm aware of, though country churches can be locked depending on the season and local arrangements, so don't be surprised if you find it shut. The village itself is quiet, properly quiet, the sort of place where you hear the wind.

If you're camped at any of the nearby parks - Gadfa Touring is closest at just over four miles away - it makes a decent leg-stretch walk rather than a destination in itself. Pair it with a wander round the village or a drive towards Amlwch's coastal spots and you've got a half-decent morning sorted.
