The church sits on the high street in Hythe, easy to spot if you're wandering through town. St Martins is a proper medieval affair - the sort of place that rewards a quiet look inside if the doors happen to be open. The interior's got that typical Kent parish church feel: stone walls, wooden pews worn smooth by centuries of use, and enough light filtering through old windows to actually read the memorials without squinting.

It works best as a stop-off rather than a destination in itself. History buffs will appreciate the medieval fabric and the layers of restoration work, but you're not talking about a grand cathedral here - more a working community church that happens to be very old. Give yourself twenty minutes, maybe half an hour if you're the type who reads every inscription.

You could combine St Martins with a wander along the seafront or a poke around the local shops without making a whole day of it. It's the sort of thing you do while you're in the area, not the reason you come to Kent.
