Port Lympne Dinosaur Forest

Walk through woodland where life-sized dinosaur sculptures lurk between the trees, and you've got the gist of Port Lympne's Dinosaur Forest. It's essentially a nature trail with a prehistoric twist - life-sized replicas of various dinosaurs dotted along the path through the reserve near Hythe. You won't get CGI accuracy or movement here, but there's something rather effective about rounding a corner to find a towering T-Rex staring down at you from the undergrowth.

Children under ten will absolutely lap this up. The walk itself takes maybe an hour if you dawdle and read the information boards, which actually contain decent facts rather than pure fluff. Older kids and adults who aren't entirely sold on dinosaurs might find it a bit thin - it's more curiosity than immersion. The nature reserve side is genuine enough, with proper woodland paths and decent views across the Romney Marsh area.

Being literally adjacent to Port Lympne Safari Park, this works brilliantly as an add-on activity if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan parks like New Beach Holiday Park or Daleacres. Most families do both in a single day trip - the dinosaur walk in the morning when it's quieter, then the safari in the afternoon. Admission seems reasonable and it's free to wander if you're just after a woodland walk. The location, just outside Hythe on the Kent coast, makes it convenient rather than spectacular, but it's the sort of place that keeps kids occupied without requiring much planning.
