St Martin

The church itself is small - proper whitewashed walls and a chunky tower that's been keeping watch over Looe since medieval times. St Martin sits right in the heart of town, so you can't really miss it if you're wandering the narrow streets down to the harbour. Inside, the usual church setup: stone floors, wooden pews, a decent amount of light coming through the windows. It's the kind of place locals pop into rather than tourists making a special journey, but that's not really a criticism.

If you're staying at Waterside or Tregoad Holiday Park just under a mile away, it's worth a quick look while you're in Looe proper. The town itself is the main draw - working fishing port, decent fish and chips, the beach. St Martin just adds a bit of historical context without eating into your day. Twenty minutes maximum, so factor it in alongside everything else you're doing in town rather than making it a standalone trip.

The church does feel authentically Cornish - no gift shop, no entrance fee nonsense, just a functioning parish church where people actually worship. If you've got kids they'll get restless quickly unless they're the type interested in old buildings. For walkers exploring Looe's coastal paths or staying at Tencreek up the road, it's a reasonable indoor refuge if the weather turns. Best thing about it? It's free and you won't queue.
