The walk down to Plaidy Beach from Looe takes you through proper coastal woodland, and it's worth every step. You emerge onto a sheltered cove with golden sand, rock pools that stay full even at low tide, and enough space to actually spread out without feeling cramped alongside fifty other families.

It's the kind of beach where you can genuinely lose an hour just turning over rocks and spotting crabs. The surrounding cliffs give it real character - not dramatic or showy, just solid and protective. Swimming is safe in the summer months, though the water stays chilly year-round because, well, it's Cornwall and the Atlantic doesn't warm up much.

Families will find this far more manageable than the busier Looe beaches. The walk keeps day-trippers at bay, so even peak season feels relatively calm. Rock poolers and kids who like exploring will be in their element. Older walkers might find the descent a touch steep on tired legs, but nothing treacherous.

There's no café or facilities right here - bring what you need from Looe, which sits just over a mile away. Best to visit on a calm day; when the swell picks up, it's less pleasant. Allow a couple of hours minimum if you're bringing kids, longer if you're serious about the pools.
