St Margaret's Church, Moreton Say

The church sits quietly in Moreton Say village, a few miles south of Shrewsbury - the sort of place you'd miss entirely if you weren't looking for it. St Margaret's is a proper medieval parish church, all timber framing and stone, with the kind of worn interior that tells you people have been coming here for centuries. The nave's worth a look for its original features, and if you're into old churches there's enough architectural detail to keep you occupied for twenty minutes or so.

This isn't a showstopper attraction - no queues, no gift shop, just a functioning village church you can wander into. It works best if you're already exploring the quieter bits of Shropshire around Shrewsbury, combining it with walks across the local farmland rather than treating it as a destination in itself. Families with older kids might appreciate the history angle; younger ones will get bored fairly quickly once they've had a poke about.

If you're staying at Hawk Lake Caravan Park - just 3.5 miles away and highly rated - or Westcott Woods Glamping, St Margaret's makes a gentle morning detour before heading into Shrewsbury proper. The village is small and unhurried, so allow half an hour maximum unless you're genuinely into medieval ecclesiastical architecture. Free to enter, naturally. Best visited midweek when the place feels genuinely sleepy rather than weekend-busy. Not essential, but worth the short drive if you're in the area.
