St Huberts Church

The churchyard at St Huberts is tucked away off a quiet lane just outside Preston - the sort of place you'd stumble upon while driving through Lancashire rather than deliberately seek out. But that's precisely its charm. This is a proper working parish church with medieval bones, though the current building is largely Victorian reworking that doesn't apologise for itself.

Inside, the stonework feels solid and unpretentious. There's none of the showing-off you get in some cathedrals - just honest ecclesiastical architecture and the usual quiet that comes with somewhere that's been prayed in for centuries. The churchyard itself matters more than the interior, really. It's a pleasing spot to wander through, particularly if you're staying at one of the caravan parks nearby like Brickhouse or Cross Lane, both five miles or so away.

This isn't a destination in itself, to be frank. You won't spend more than thirty or forty minutes here unless you're the type who reads every gravestone. But if you're touring Lancashire's religious heritage or just after a peaceful break during a park holiday, it works well enough. The setting is gentle countryside rather than dramatic - good for a stretch of the legs between activities.

Worth knowing: access is generally free for churchgoers, though opening hours can be variable. Ring ahead if you're making a special trip. It sits well within reach of Preston's other attractions if you're basing yourself at the caravan parks for the week.
