Parlick

The walk up Parlick is a proper Lancashire classic - nothing glamorous, just solid moorland fell with views that stretch halfway across the north if you time it right. From Preston, it's a straightforward drive into the hills, and you've got a choice of routes depending on how much punishment you fancy. The main path from Fairsnape Fell is the popular option, but the approach via Greensnape is less tramped and arguably better if you want to avoid the crowds. The summit itself sits at just over 1,400 feet, so it's not a brutal slog, but the exposed moorland means you'll feel the wind when it's up. On a clear day - and they're rarer than you'd think - you genuinely can see the Pennines. On a grey day, which is more likely, you'll get the quintessential Lancastrian moorland experience: heather, wind, and the satisfaction of being somewhere proper rather than somewhere Instagram-ready. Walkers and fell-bagging types will get real value from it. Families with younger kids might find it a bit one-note after the initial climb, though the moorland has an austere beauty that keeps you interested. Allow two to three hours for a comfortable round trip. The nearest holiday parks - Brickhouse, Wigwam Holidays Kidsnape Farm, and Beacon Fell View - are all within striking distance and give you a decent base for exploring the Fylde Peninsula hills. Go early on a weekday if you can. The car parks fill quickly on weekends, and you'll have the fell largely to yourself.
