St David's Church, Glascwm

You won't find St David's Church signposted from anywhere obvious. That's rather the point. This modest stone chapel sits alone in the Powys countryside near Glascwm, a couple of miles south of Llandrindod Wells, and demands you actually make an effort to find it.

Inside, the church is spare and genuine - no gift shop, no interpretation boards, just whitewashed walls and simple fixtures that speak to centuries of worship. The real draw is standing outside, watching the landscape roll away in all directions. It's the kind of place that makes you understand why people bothered building a church here at all.

Historians and architecture enthusiasts will get the most from a visit, though honestly, anyone after a quiet moment away from the holiday parks clustered around Llandrindod Wells should duck out here. You're looking at twenty minutes maximum, unless you're the type who likes to sit on a bench and think.

Access is free, as far as I can tell, though opening hours aren't advertised - you'll need to check locally or simply try the door. If you're based at Fforest Fields or Presteigne Holiday Park, both within a short drive, this makes an undemanding add-on to a morning's wandering. Don't expect facilities. Do expect the kind of authentic, unbothered Welsh countryside that the bigger attractions can't quite manage.
