Soldier's Grave, War Memorial

The Soldier's Grave War Memorial stands as a quiet, sobering reminder just outside Pitlochry. It's the kind of place that stops you mid-walk - a simple stone marker honouring those who fell, with the Perthshire hills rolling behind it. There's no fanfare here, no gift shop or visitor centre. Just respect.

You'll spend twenty minutes, maybe half an hour, standing in the wind reading names and dates. It's worth it if you're walking the area anyway, though frankly it's not the sort of destination you'd drive out of your way for unless military history genuinely moves you. Families with older children might find it educational rather than engaging - there's nothing interactive, nothing to climb or explore beyond the memorial itself.

Free to visit, naturally. Best approached during one of the many walks around Pitlochry itself. If you're camping at River Tilt Park or staying near Faskally Woods Holiday Park, it's practically on your doorstep. The surrounding countryside is genuinely lovely - combine it with a proper woodland walk and you've got a proper half-day outing.

Clear morning light hits the stone nicely if you're wanting photos. Winter can be bleak here, all grey skies and damp. Spring and early autumn are better. Go if you're already in the area exploring the Tay Valley. Don't make it your reason to visit Pitlochry, but do pay your respects if you pass.
