Skiftings Clump

A small woodland area just outside Brough, Skiftings Clump is the sort of place you'll stumble across rather than deliberately plan a trip around. It's a proper working forest - nothing manicured or visitor-centred about it, which is precisely the appeal. You get decent walking through mixed woodland, the kind where you can actually lose yourself for half an hour without hitting a car park or a gift shop.

The trees are mature enough to create real shade, and there's enough variation in the paths to stop you walking the same route twice if you're staying nearby. It's walker terrain rather than pushchair-friendly, and history buffs won't find anything to write home about - this is about the walk itself, not some grand narrative. Most people clock it as a 45-minute to hour-long diversion, which is about right.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan sites - Willow Pond, William's Den, Little Wold Away, or Butt Farm - it's a useful option for stretching your legs without heading far afield. Worth a go on a decent morning, especially if the weather's holding and you fancy a bit of air. Not a destination on its own, but a solid addition to a Wolds break where you're mixing gentle rambles with village exploring.
