Walking into Terrace Plantation near Brough feels like stepping into someone's well-kept secret. This forest sits quietly in East Yorkshire, offering the kind of woodland that rewards a proper wander without demanding much in return. The plantation is straightforward - mature trees, good paths, and the sort of peace you don't get near town centres. You're looking at a couple of hours maximum for a decent circuit, depending on how slowly you want to move.

It's dead easy on the wallet too, being free to access. The plantation works brilliantly if you're based at one of the nearby caravan sites - Willow Pond is five miles away and highly rated, as are Little Wold Away and William's Den if you fancy something a touch more upmarket with glamping. You can roll out of your pitch, spend a morning here, and be back for lunch without any fuss.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not dramatic or towering - there's no view that'll take your breath away - but it's solid woodland walking through proper countryside.
