Seaton Point

The walk out to Seaton Point from Alnwick feels like you're edging towards the edge of England itself. It's a proper coastal landmark - a rocky outcrop that juts into the North Sea with views stretching for miles in either direction. On a clear day you can see right up the Northumberland coast, and the light does something special here in the late afternoon, turning the sea all shades of grey and gold.

There's not much to "do" here in the traditional sense. You walk, you look, you stand about a bit taking photos if you're that way inclined. But that's rather the point. Walkers will find it deeply satisfying - the kind of destination that justifies a good three-mile round trip. Families with younger kids might lose them after twenty minutes, though teenagers won't mind the coastal scramble.

It's free, obviously. Allow a couple of hours if you're not rushing - longer if you're the type to sit on the rocks with a flask. The nearby Northumberland Coast Camp (about five miles away) makes a solid base if you're doing a week of coastal exploring. Alnwick itself is close enough for supplies and that rather famous castle if the weather turns grim.

Go when the wind isn't absolutely howling, which in Northumberland means you might have to wait a while. Spring or early autumn are your best bets. It's not Instagram-famous and it's not going to transform your life, but it's the sort of place that sticks with you - proper, genuine, northern coastline without the fuss.
