Sandy beach Llanfwrog

The beach at Llanfwrog sits on Anglesey's quieter northwestern coast, a proper sweep of golden sand that faces out toward the Irish Sea. There's something refreshing about it - not the Instagram-postcard stuff you get further south, just good honest beach with space to breathe. The sand is firm and wide at low tide, the kind that's actually pleasant to walk on rather than ankle-breaking shingle.

It works best for families with younger kids or anyone after a peaceful few hours by the water. The beach is relatively sheltered and the water's calm most days, which matters when you've got little ones in tow. Walkers will find the coastal path decent enough, though it's not dramatic scenery - more gentle Anglesey rambling than show-stopping views. Holyhead is only a few miles away if you need supplies or a decent café afterwards.

Timing-wise, go early if it's summer weekends - the car park fills up but not to the point of madness. Low tide gives you the most sand to play with. It's free to access, which is always welcome. Most people allow two to three hours comfortably.

For a park holiday, Pengraig Campsite sits just 3.7 miles away and it's highly rated - close enough for a quick beach morning before heading elsewhere. Llain Ffynnon is similarly convenient at 3.9 miles. Both would make solid bases if you're mixing beach time with exploring Anglesey's quieter corners.
