Round Hill

The walk up Round Hill near Market Rasen rewards you with something rare in Lincolnshire - proper elevation and views that actually stretch somewhere. It's not Alpine, but after miles of flatland, this modest peak feels properly significant.

You're looking at a short but worthwhile climb that takes maybe thirty to forty minutes depending on fitness. The summit offers decent visibility across the Wolds when conditions are decent - on a clear day you can pick out the landscape rolling away in all directions. It's exactly the sort of thing that keeps walkers happy without demanding technical gear or half a day of your time.

For families with older kids, it works well. Younger children might find the climb a bit tedious and the payoff underwhelming - there's no shelter or cafe at the top, just the walk itself and the view. History types won't find much to investigate, but keen walkers exploring the Wolds will slot this in nicely as part of a broader loop.

The nearest base is Market Rasen, a proper market town about four miles away. If you're staying at Wolds View Country Park - a solid caravan spot just down the road - Round Hill makes an easy morning or afternoon outing. No fees that we know of, just turn up and walk. Best in spring or autumn when the light's decent and you won't overheat on the slope. Bit of a slog in August heat, honestly.
