Nettleton Hill

The highest point in Lincolnshire doesn't announce itself with fanfare, which is rather the appeal. Nettleton Hill rises to just 168 metres near Market Rasen, and yes, that's genuinely the county's peak - a reminder that the Midlands are relentlessly flat. What you're getting here is a proper walk across open countryside rather than a dramatic mountain experience. The view from the top sweeps across the rolling Wolds, and on a clear day you can sense the vast agricultural landscape rolling away toward the coast. It's the kind of place where the horizon matters more than altitude.

The walk itself is straightforward and takes roughly an hour there and back from the nearest access points. Families with kids will manage it easily, though it's not a destination where you'll spend half the day - come for the exercise and the sense of achievement rather than elaborate facilities. There's nothing here but grass, sky and the occasional walker doing exactly what you're doing.

If you're based at Station Farm Caravan and Camping Site or Wolds View Country Park just down the road, this makes a pleasant morning outing before heading elsewhere. The nearby Lincolnshire Wolds offer proper walking territory if you want something more involved, but Nettleton Hill itself serves as a quick legs-stretcher with a touch of bragging rights. Free to visit, naturally - there's nowhere to pay. Go in decent weather; it's exposed and winds can be bracing, but that's rather the point.
