About Nettleton Top
It's a walk more than a destination, really. The surrounding countryside shifts from arable fields to grassland as you ascend, and on a clear day you can see across into Nottinghamshire. The Wolds feel less crowded than the Peak District proper, with none of the tourist infrastructure - just fields, sky, and the sound of wind in the grass. Families with older children will enjoy the walk itself; younger ones might find it a bit dull as there's nothing to actually do once you're up there.
The real value is as part of a longer ramble through the Wolds. If you're staying at Station Farm or Wolds View - both within a couple of miles - you can tack this onto a longer circuit without faffing about with car parks or entry fees. Allow an hour or so for the ascent and a mooch about at the top. The best visit is probably spring or early summer when the chalk grassland flowers up, rather than a grey February afternoon when it's just brown and the wind goes right through you.
Worth doing if you're in the area. Don't make a special journey.
