Rosin Hill

At 338 metres, Rosin Hill is Lincolnshire's highest point - which sounds more dramatic than it actually is when you're standing on it. The Wolds roll out around you in waves of farmland and hedgerow, proper gentle and surprisingly spacious given you're in the East Midlands. It's the sort of view that creeps up on you rather than hits you. No dramatic cliff edges or panoramic vistas, just a genuine sense of being on top of something real.

Walkers will get the most out of the climb. It's not arduous - Horncastle sits just south of here - but it's the kind of modest hill that rewards the effort with quietness. Kids might find it a bit anticlimactic after the walk, though families based at Oxcombe Campsite (barely half a mile away) could easily make it part of a longer ramble without fussing too much. The summit itself is unremarkable, no cairn or marker to make it feel like a proper achievement, which is either charming or disappointing depending on what you came for.

Free to visit, naturally. Best tackled early morning or late afternoon when the light's decent and the farmers aren't about. If you're staying at Lincolnshire Glamping or Three Horseshoes Campsite, it's an easy addition to your holiday itinerary - perhaps tie it to a walk round the Wolds proper rather than treating it as a destination in itself. Worth doing, but don't expect it to be the highlight of your break.
