Round Hills

Round Hills rises above the flat Lincolnshire landscape near Horncastle like someone's decided to dump a proper hill in fenland and call it a day. It's genuinely one of the few places around here where you actually get elevation - not the sort of dramatic peak that'll leave you breathless, but enough to feel like you've gone somewhere. The walk up takes about twenty minutes at a steady pace, and once you're at the top, the views across the surrounding countryside are surprisingly decent. On a clear day you can see for miles across fields that just roll on forever. There's not much up there - no visitor centre, no facilities, no great faffing about. Just the hill itself and whatever weather Lincolnshire's throwing at you that day.

It works well if you're camping at one of the nearby sites like Lincolnshire Glamping or Oxcombe Campsite and want something to actually do that doesn't involve driving somewhere. Kids will get a kick out of it if they're the sort who like climbing things and spotting views - though they might find it a bit underwhelming after ten minutes if you're expecting theme park levels of excitement. History types won't find much, but walkers will appreciate it as a decent short excursion. The area's quite peaceful, which is either brilliant or boring depending on whether you're after a break or entertainment. Worth the trip if you're already in Horncastle or camping nearby. Less worth the dedicated drive if you're further afield.
