Rosemary Rigby Millennium Green

A couple of acres of managed grassland and wildflower meadow just outside Hereford, Rosemary Rigby Millennium Green is the sort of place you'll stumble upon rather than deliberately plan around. It's pleasant enough - proper habitat for butterflies and smaller birds, with enough open space to let children run about without worrying they'll vanish into woodland. The wildflowers do their thing in season, though you're not talking Kew Gardens here.

Walkers and nature enthusiasts will appreciate it most, particularly anyone keen on spotting common species rather than chasing rarities. It's the kind of green space that does exactly what it says on the tin: a bit of restored meadow doing its job for local wildlife. Kids will get something from it for maybe half an hour if you're lucky, then they'll want to move on.

The real value comes when you're based at Tresseck Campsite or Burhope Farm Campsite nearby - both excellent spots rated five stars by visitors. It slots in nicely as a morning or afternoon leg-stretch between bigger attractions around Hereford. Admission appears to be free, which is fair given the scale of the place.

If you're after proper nature reserves with visitor facilities or longer walking routes, you'll want to venture further afield. But as a quick stop to add some green air to your camping holiday without travelling far, it's worth knowing about. Expect to spend twenty minutes to an hour depending on how serious you are about wildflower identification.
