The Forge

The Forge is one of those landmarks that stops you in your tracks the moment you spot it - a working blacksmith's workshop that's been operating in Herefordshire for decades. Walking in, you're hit with the smell of hot metal and coal, the ring of hammer on anvil still doing what it's done for generations. The blacksmith will often be at work when you visit, which means you get to watch skilled craftsmanship happen in real time rather than read about it behind glass.

It's genuinely absorbing if you care about traditional trades. The rhythmic clang, the sparks, the way metal bends under expert hands - there's something properly hypnotic about it. Kids aged seven upwards tend to get it; younger ones might find it a bit loud and intense. You're looking at thirty minutes to an hour here, tops, unless you're seriously into metalwork.

The Forge works well as a stop during a broader exploration of the Hereford area. It's close enough to Ridge Hill Caravan & Camping and Primrose Smallholding to make a morning or afternoon trip without faffing about. Several other parks - Lucksall, Broadmeadow Glamping, and Cuckoo's Corner - are within easy driving distance if you're based in the region for a longer stay.

Admission details and exact opening hours aren't straightforward to pin down, so ring ahead before you go. Worth the detour if you're already in Herefordshire and genuinely interested in how things are made the old way. Less compelling if you're just ticking off attractions.
