Artsite3 is a contemporary gallery just outside Hereford that punches well above its weight for a rural location. The space focuses on modern and experimental work - the kind of thing you'd expect to find in a city gallery, but here it's set against proper Herefordshire countryside instead of warehouse brick. We spent a good couple of hours wandering through their current exhibitions, which rotate fairly regularly.

It's the sort of place that'll appeal to anyone serious about art without being pretentious about it. If you're camping at one of the nearby sites like Ridge Hill or Cuckoo's Corner - both within four miles - it makes for a cracking rainy-day outing or something to fill a morning before heading into Hereford proper. The work on display tends toward the challenging rather than the safe, which means some visits will hit harder than others depending on what's showing.

I'd recommend ringing ahead to check opening hours and whether there's a suggested donation or fixed entry fee, as details aren't widely published online. Allow a couple of hours if you're genuinely interested in the work, or an hour if you're just browsing. It's not the sort of place to rush through. The real draw here is that it's genuine - not trying to be something it's not, just doing interesting work in the middle of the countryside. Definitely worth the detour if contemporary art is your thing.
