Road Copse

Road Copse is a proper forest walk just outside Tiverton, the sort of place where you can disappear for a couple of hours without feeling like you've driven halfway across Devon. The woodland here is thick and mature - oak, beech, and conifers creating a canopy that keeps things cool even on warmer days. There are decent paths threading through, though they can get a bit boggy after rain, so decent boots are worth the bother.

It's ideal for walkers wanting something low-key rather than a big hill slog. Families with children who don't mind a muddy adventure will get on fine here - nothing dramatic, just pleasant woodland rambling. You're looking at an hour to ninety minutes depending on which routes you take and how often you stop to listen to the birds.

The appeal is simple and genuine. This isn't a showpiece woodland with a visitor centre and gift shop - it's just proper forest where you can think or chat without distractions. Spring's lovely for bluebells, and autumn brings decent colour, though winter walking here is grim with the mud.
