River Lake

A proper Lancashire water, River Lake sits just outside Garstang and pulls in plenty of folk who fancy a straightforward lakeside walk without the pretension. Don't expect dramatic views or rare wildlife - this is straightforward Lancashire countryside.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Moss Wood is closest at under four miles away - it makes a decent morning outing. Pair it with a proper walk elsewhere in the region if you want something with more teeth. The free access and easy parking mean there's no friction to just turning up, which counts in its favour. Spring and early summer are nicest, when the banks have a bit of colour rather than November's grey slog.
