Quarry Copse

It's a small woodland, so manage your expectations accordingly. Most people would spend an hour to ninety minutes poking around, following the various routes through the canopy. The name gives it away - there's a disused quarry in here, which adds a bit of geological interest if you're the type who cares about that sort of thing. The real appeal though is simply the peacefulness. You won't find crowds or facilities, which means it's brilliant for anyone wanting a genuine escape rather than a polished tourist experience.

Families with young kids will get a decent walk out of it, though the rougher sections might frustrate pushchair users. Walkers passing through Tiverton should absolutely divert - it's the kind of place that slots perfectly into a longer loop. Access appears to be free, though there's no obvious infrastructure - no signposting, no car park to speak of. It's genuinely one of those spots where you need to know it exists first. Better that way, honestly.
