Pingot Quarry Waterfall

The walk to Pingot Quarry Waterfall is honestly the best bit - it's a proper moorland tramp above Greenfield that gets your legs working and your lungs burning in the best way. The waterfall itself tumbles down through a narrow rocky gorge, and after recent rain it's genuinely impressive, all white noise and spray bouncing off dark stone. Arrive when the light's low and you'll catch the water catching gold at the edges.

It's not a five-minute tourist trap. You're looking at a solid two to three hours including the walk, so come prepared with decent boots and water. The path climbs steeply from Greenfield but rewards you with views across the Pennines that make it entirely worth the effort. Walkers will love it - this is proper fell territory, not a gentle stroll.

Families with older kids (ten plus) will manage fine, though younger ones might find the climb tedious. History types get less from it unless you're interested in the old quarrying heritage of the area. It's free, obviously, and there are no facilities once you leave Greenfield, so plan accordingly.

Dovestone Holiday Park sits just five miles away, making this an easy add-on to a Lancashire base. If you're staying there and the weather looks decent, head up. If it's been dry for days, you might find the falls disappointing. That's the trade-off with moorland waterfall chasing.
