Pikeley Hill

The walk up Pikeley Hill rewards you with proper views across the Ribble Valley - the sort of panorama that makes the slog worthwhile on a clear day. It's not a dramatic peak by any stretch, more of a solid fell walk that takes you out of Clitheroe's orbit and into proper Lancashire moorland. The summit itself is fairly modest, but standing up there you get the full sweep of the valley floor and the darker fells beyond.

You're looking at a decent leg-stretch rather than a mountaineering expedition. Most walkers allow a couple of hours return, depending on fitness and how many times you stop to catch your breath or take photos. The path is well-trodden, so you won't need a map to find your way, though the terrain can be boggy in patches after rain - decent boots are sensible. Families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might grumble on the way down.

If you're camped at Thornton Hall Country Park or Hedgerow Luxury Glamping - both close by - this makes a cracking morning walk before heading back for lunch. It's free to visit, obviously, and there's no formal opening hours to worry about. Go early if you want solitude, and avoid it on rainy days when the views disappear and the ground turns into a quagmire. Real value is in the walking, not any particular feature at the top.
