Peter's Crag

The walk up Peter's Crag, just outside Skipton, is one of those Yorkshire moorland climbs that feels properly rewarding without being a slog. You're looking at a straightforward approach from the valley floor - the peak itself isn't dramatic or towering, but the views back across Wharfedale are the real draw here. On a clear day you can see for miles across the dales, with Bolton Abbey visible downstream if you know where to look.

This is walkers' territory. It's not a scramble or a technical climb, so families with decent boots and a bit of fitness can manage it easily enough. The route's well-trodden and takes maybe two hours there and back depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. Bring a packed lunch - there's nowhere to eat up there, and it's the sort of place you want to sit for a bit and take it in.

It fits perfectly into a holiday based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Coxons Farm Glamping Pods is closest at just a mile and a half away, or if you're staying at Bolton Abbey Estate Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, you've got other walks on the estate to explore as well. The Dales landscape around here rewards proper exploring rather than ticking boxes. Go early on a weekend if you want the place to yourself.
