The gallery punches above its weight - you'll find contemporary art and touring exhibitions that shift regularly, so there's genuine reason to visit more than once if you're in the area for a week.

It's not a massive operation, which means you can take it in without gallery fatigue setting in halfway through. The space itself has character, and the staff tend to know what they're talking about. You're looking at an hour or so to do it justice, maybe ninety minutes if an exhibition properly grabs you.

Families with older kids will get more from it than those with toddlers - it's not a hands-on, interactive sort of place. But if you've got teenagers who don't complain about art galleries, or you're genuinely interested in what's on, it's worth the short drive from Crook O'Lune or Parkdean Resorts Ocean Edge. Paired with a walk along the Lancaster Canal or a proper wander around the town itself, it fills an afternoon nicely.
