Pen-Or

Standing at just over 600 metres, this unassuming summit near Llanrwst delivers one of Snowdonia's most underrated views. The climb isn't particularly taxing - you'll gain about 300 metres from the nearest parking spot - but the panorama across the Conwy Valley makes every step worthwhile.

Families with older children will find the ascent manageable, though toddlers might struggle with the rocky sections near the top. The path can get muddy after rain, so proper walking boots are essential. What makes Pen-Or special is the 360-degree vista: the Carneddau range stretches out to the west, while the Conwy Valley unfolds below like a green carpet.

On clear days, you can spot Conwy Castle gleaming in the distance. The summit itself is marked by a modest cairn - nothing fancy, but the views more than compensate. Allow two to three hours for the round trip, depending on how long you linger at the top.

This peak works brilliantly as a half-day adventure if you're staying at one of the nearby parks around Llanrwst. Erw Glas Glamping is closest at just 0.7 miles away, while Maenan Abbey Caravan Park offers another convenient base. The climb pairs well with exploring Llanrwst's market town charm or visiting nearby Gwydir Forest.
