Mynydd Cauedig

Views across the Conwy Valley unfold like a proper Welsh postcard from Mynydd Cauedig's summit, though you'll have earned them after a decent climb through woodland and open moorland. This 394-metre peak sits just west of Llanrwst and offers one of the better vantage points in this part of Snowdonia without the crowds that plague the bigger mountains.

Walkers with a reasonable level of fitness will get the most from this hill. The route up takes about an hour from the nearest parking spots, winding through mixed terrain that keeps things interesting. On clear days, you can spot Snowdon in the distance and the Conwy Estuary snaking towards the coast.

Families with older children who don't mind a proper walk will find it manageable, though anyone expecting an easy stroll should look elsewhere. The paths can get muddy after rain, so decent boots are essential.

If you're staying at one of the holiday parks around Llanrwst - Erw Glas Glamping or Wern Farm Caravan Park are both within a couple of miles - this makes a cracking half-day adventure. Allow three hours round trip including time at the top. Early morning climbs often reward you with the clearest views before the afternoon haze rolls in from the coast.
