About Peak Naze
What you're actually climbing is a sandstone ridge rising above the Saddleworth Moor, all heather and gritstone. The path isn't technical, but it's relentless enough that young children might struggle and complain (mine did). Allow a good hour each way from Greenfield if you're taking your time, maybe ninety minutes if you're doing it properly and stopping to breathe.
It's walkers' territory, really. The ridge itself is only a few metres across at the summit, nothing dramatic, but the sense of being up there in the landscape is genuine. You get proper moorland underfoot, the kind of high moorland that reminds you Lancashire has teeth to it. The wind can bite hard when it's coming across, so come prepared even when it looks mild below.
Free to access, obviously - it's open moorland. Best visited in settled weather rather than when it's looking threatening from the valley. An hour there from Dovestone Holiday Park, which makes it a decent half-day excursion if you're based that way.
Not a peak for the casual visitor looking for an easy vista. This is for people who actually enjoy walking uphill.
