Park Hill

The walk up Park Hill rewards you with proper views across the Lincolnshire Wolds - a landscape that doesn't shout but genuinely grows on you the longer you look. It's not Alpine, but for these parts it's the real deal: a modest climb that takes maybe twenty minutes from Horncastle, ending at a summit that feels properly earned despite the modest elevation.

You get 360-degree sightlines across rolling countryside, woods, and farmland stretching toward the coast. On a clear day you can actually see what the Wolds are about - gentle, undulating terrain that makes for proper walking country rather than a single destination. It's the kind of place that walkers and families wanting a decent leg-stretch will rate highly. Kids won't find much to occupy them once they reach the top (there's no visitor infrastructure), but the walk itself is straightforward enough for confident young legs.

The nearest town of Horncastle sits just below, making this ideal if you're based at one of the local campsites - Oxcombe Campsite and Three Horseshoes Campsite are both within striking distance, and Lincolnshire Glamping a bit further out. You could easily combine Park Hill with exploring the broader Wolds landscape; it's really more of a stepping stone than a full afternoon activity.

Go early morning or late afternoon for the best light and fewest people. It's free, of course. Allow an hour including the walk and time to properly take in the views. Worth doing once if you're in the area, though don't expect anything beyond a good vantage point and honest countryside.
