Panorama Reservoir

The reservoir sits high above Ilkley, a proper Yorkshire spot that catches most visitors off guard with how good it is. You're looking at a substantial body of water ringed by moorland - the kind of place where you genuinely feel you've left town behind despite being minutes from the high street. The walk around it takes about an hour, give or take, depending on your pace and whether you stop to stare across to Pendle Hill in the distance.

It's walkers' territory, mainly. The paths are well-maintained and the views shift constantly as you move - water, moor, distant valleys. Families with kids will find it manageable, though very young ones might struggle with the moorland sections after rain. Birdwatchers come here regularly; there's proper birding to be done.

Go early if you can, especially on weekends. The car park fills up and the place loses something when it's rammed with day-trippers. Early morning light across the water is genuinely worth the alarm clock.

Panorama works well as part of a wider walk around Ilkley - you can string together several routes if you're staying put.
