Bare Hill

Standing at 324 metres above sea level, this unassuming summit on Ilkley Moor rewards walkers with proper Yorkshire views across Wharfedale. The climb from Ilkley town centre takes about 45 minutes through heather moorland, following well-worn paths that can get boggy after rain.

Families with older children will enjoy the adventure, though toddlers might struggle with the rough terrain. Dog walkers love it here - plenty of space to roam and no traffic worries once you're up top. The summit itself is marked by a small cairn, nothing fancy, but the panoramic views make the effort worthwhile on a clear day.

Best tackled in decent weather when visibility stretches across the Dales. Early morning visits often catch the mist rolling through the valleys below, though afternoon light shows off the landscape better for photographs. Pack waterproofs - weather changes quickly up here.

From nearby holiday parks like Brown Bank Caravan Park or Olicana Park, it's an easy drive to the Ilkley trailheads. The walk makes a decent half-day out, leaving time to explore Ilkley's cafes afterwards. Hardy walkers can extend the route to connect with other moor summits, but for most visitors, Bare Hill alone provides enough of a workout and plenty of fresh air.
