Cross the River Ouzel on a 17th-century stone bridge and you're looking at one of Northamptonshire's genuine historical survivors. Oxford Bridge sits just outside Buckingham, a proper old structure that's worth a brief stop if you're passing through the area, though don't expect to linger long.

It's a straightforward affair - a modest arched bridge with solid stonework that's weathered four centuries reasonably well. The real appeal lies in what surrounds it rather than the bridge itself. The riverside setting is pleasant enough, and there's something satisfying about crossing water on something built before the Industrial Revolution.

Historically minded visitors will appreciate the bones of the thing, and walkers tackling the footpaths along the Ouzel valley might pass this way naturally. Families won't find much to do here beyond a quick photo stop. You're looking at ten minutes maximum, unless you fancy a proper riverside wander.

It's free to cross and accessible year-round, though spring and early autumn are the loveliest times when the water's running well. The bridge works well as part of a broader Buckingham exploration rather than a destination in itself. If you're staying at one of the nearby campsites - Hedgehog Retreat, Dadford Road, or Silverstone Woodlands are all within a couple of miles - it's an easy leg-stretch before heading to Silverstone or further afield. Real value comes from bundling it with other local walks and the market town itself.
