Our Lady of the Assumption and St Edward the Confessor

The church sits quietly at the heart of Brockenhurst, a solid Victorian rebuild of something far older. All red brick and purposeful design - it's the sort of place you might walk past without noticing, which would be a shame. Inside, the space opens up properly, with decent stained glass and the kind of calm that only churches manage. The dedication to Our Lady and St Edward gives it a dual purpose, both Catholic and Anglican elements woven through the architecture.

Brockenhurst itself is the perfect base if you're camping in the New Forest - Long Meadow Campsite and Hollands Wood are both within three miles, so you could easily pop into the village for a proper Sunday service or just to stretch your legs. The church works best as part of a wider wander round the village rather than a standalone trip. Twenty minutes inside is enough to take it in properly, then head to the high street for coffee and a decent pie.

The New Forest itself dominates everything here - with the national park just 1.4 miles away, most visitors are really coming for the trees, ponies, and trails. The church is a quiet counterpoint to all that outdoor activity, somewhere to sit and collect yourself before heading back out into the forest. No fees that we can find, no fussiness about opening times in the traditional sense. It's a working village church, so treat it with proper respect. If you're camping nearby and fancy something with a bit of history and stillness, this works well. Don't expect anything grand, just honest Victorian architecture in a place that genuinely needs it.
