Ott Mountain

The walk up Ott Mountain from Newry isn't particularly long, but it rewards you with proper views across the Mourne foothills. You're looking at a solid hour on foot from the nearest car park, with the terrain getting progressively steeper as you climb - nothing technical, but it's genuine work rather than a gentle stroll.

What you get at the top is space and air. On a clear day you can see across towards Slieve Donard and the broader mountain range. The mountain itself is fairly exposed once you're above the lower slopes, so weather matters here. Don't expect much infrastructure - there's no café, no visitor centre, no facilities. This is a straightforward hill walk.

Walkers will get the most from it, particularly those already familiar with the Mournes who want to explore the quieter peaks. Families with young children might find it a bit much unless they're used to climbing. It's the sort of place you go for the exercise and the view, not for a casual afternoon out.

Based near Newry, you're well-positioned for the surrounding countryside. Several glamping spots and campsites sit within a few miles - Greenview Glamping and The Rock Caravan and Camping are closest. Tollymore Campsite and Camping Tollymore Forest Park are slightly further but put you right on the edge of proper mountain terrain for longer explorations.

Go when the weather's settled. An overcast day here isn't terrible, but it defeats half the purpose. Allow two to three hours for the round trip depending on your fitness.
