Oriel Cemaes

There's a small art gallery tucked away in Cemaes Bay that most visitors to Anglesey completely miss. Oriel Cemaes is free to wander round, which already puts it ahead of most tourist attractions. The space itself is modest - this isn't a sprawling museum - but what it does is showcase work by local and Welsh artists, and the quality shifts depending on the exhibition schedule.

You'll spend somewhere between thirty minutes and an hour here, depending on how much you engage with what's on the walls. It's the sort of place that appeals most to people who actually care about art rather than ticking boxes. If your kids are the type to run circuits round empty rooms, they'll lose interest quickly. If they've got any inclination toward creative work themselves, though, it can spark something.

The real value is in its setting. Cemaes Bay itself is a proper coastal village with a decent beach and proper working harbour - not the kind that exists purely for tourists. Pop into Oriel Cemaes as part of a longer morning wandering around the village, grab lunch somewhere local, and you've got a solid half-day sorted.

If you're camping nearby - Llain Ffynnon and Pengraig are both within five miles - this is an easy rainy-day option without feeling like you've compromised on the day out. It won't blow your mind, but it's genuine and unpolished in a way that feels refreshing along the North Wales coast.
